[identity profile] mi6-cafe-mod.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] mi6_cafe
It’s that time for the weekly chat again! Grab your tea and confectionaries and head on down for a chat!

Don’t forget that the weekly chat is open until Friday of next week (where I will post a new weekly chat post full of exciting mi6 café updates).

Please remember that anon commenting is on so you don’t need an account to join in the fun! If you are using anon comments, if you could put your name/handle in the subject line/body of the comments that would be fab (just so everyone knows who they are talking to!)

Weekly Recs
It’s time again for you to give your weekly recs! This week we’re looking for your favourite fics/art you’ve seen over the past week and those fics/art that fit into the genre of the week!

This week the genre of fanwork recs we’re looking for is: Short and Sweet. This week we want those fics/art that are short and to the point – maybe a ficlet that’s a few hundred words or a piece of art that is a sketch.

When reccing fic/art, please can you make a separate comment with ‘Week Rec’ in the subject title. If you’re commenting anon, then just put your handle in brackets after the ‘Weekly Rec’ bit - eg Weekly Rec (cass). This just helps your friendly mod hunt down all your links and put them into the weekly rec post!

Spectre Prompt Fest!

The MI6 prompt bingo table excitement continues! We’re releasing a new prompt every week up to when Spectre is released in the UK on November 6th. You can  write/draw/create anything of your choice in response to the prompt, and you can post fills for any of the revealed prompt!

This week the prompt is: Love doesn’t solve everything.

Exploding Objects Love doesn’t solve everything Hidden Hidden Hidden
Hidden Hidden Hidden Hidden Hidden
Hidden Hidden Hidden Hidden Hidden
Hidden Hidden Hidden Hidden Hidden

You can post your fills anywhere you like – tumblr, in the comments section of the weekly chat, as a post on the comm, or to your own LJ! Feel free to link your fills in the chat, and don’t forget to tag your prompt fills with #mi6cafeprompt so everyone can share the 00Q love!

If you are posting your fill as a separate post on the comm, please follow the guidelines on the Comm's profile page with regards to headers. This helps your friendly mods create the relevant tags to ensure things are easy to find!

This week’s questions

To celebrate the chat being extended to a further week, we’ve got some more questions for you to answer and discuss!

1)      How did you get into the 00Q fandom?
2)      Had you watched any Bond films previously before Skyfall?
3)      Whose your favourite Bond actor?
4)      If you could change one thing about Skyfall what would it be and why?

Feel free to add more questions below!

all right *cracks knuckles* time for angst prompt. Annnnd i'll go look at the guidelines right now. i'm sorry. ;A;

1. Skyfall. Just. I typed 00q in the search bar on tumblr and my life has not been the same since.

2. I have actually. My dad is a big Connery!Bond fan so, I have seen all of those. Some of Moore!Bond [My dad says that Moore was a sissy bond, lmao oh father], watched OHMSS [which is the best godddamn title for a Bond movie and one of the WORST MOVIES, and *shudders* Brosnan!Bond. Brosnan!bond got the "hacker villain" movies and cheap thrills of CGI land that don't hold up well. At all. Brosnan!Bond is my dad's least favorite Bond.

3. Connery!bond and Craig!Bond. Dalton!Bond get a mention too because he and Craig!Bond are the closest to the books when it comes to bond.

4. Honestly, the way that Q was written. Using him as a plot device was kinda campy. And.. uh ... retrieving that list? There wasn't a mention that the list was recovered. They nabbed Silva's laptop but no mention of the list. Maybe more of Silva being an asshole so I could hate him more as a villain. I usually love villains that get under my skin and piss me off so much [ahemumbridgeahem. ahemjasonisaacscharacterinthepatriotahem]

2. Yeah, I saw the first ten minutes of GoldenEye on youtube and was like, "...no, I don't think so." I love Pierce Brosnan in other roles (like The Thomas Crown Affair!) but as Bond, not so much--and from the limited clip I saw, I don't think that the script did him favors. Ah, well. It was the nineties.

4. SO TRUE.

Brosnan definitely suffered in the script department. I thought his interpretation of Bond wasn't so bad, but he didn't get a chance to do anything with it

Thomas Crown was really good, so was The Ghost Writer. Neither of four scripts did him any favours and I agree with isthisrubble, that he had potential, but nothing to work with (apart from Sean Bean)

*whiny voice* but die another day was so baaaaaaaaaaayyyuuuddd.

and yeah i agree. which is why i can watch them but they are movies that are trying to be serious when they're real campy. [joe don baker anyone? ugh [mst3k fans around?]] They do get shit on but a lot of people shit on Quantum of Solace, too.

QoS suffered because of that horrendous writer's strike. Personally, when i first saw it in theaters, i hated it. I didn't like it at all. It wasn't until I got the box set of all the movies when I decided to rewatch it and i was like: ...this....actually isn't that bad.

I feel like I really should rewatch Brosnan's films but...I just. I never saw him as Bond, imo. He's too nice of a guy. He wasn't an asshole enough to be bond to me. [which to me, daniel is a great fit because he's mr smexy and asshole enough to be an agent.] connery is like d craig's bond but a bit too much of an asshole, not enough agent. dalton was a great bond, and lazenby..... /sighs/ lazenby. Moore is kinda like Brosnan, he was /too/ nice as bond and not enough asshole. He also got some...horrible movie scripts, too. [moonraker MOONRAKER]

oh, I know, Die Another Day was terrible. It would make a great comedy, but it was trying way too hard to be a serious action film.

QoS wasn't too bad, especially compared with Bronsan's films. I feel like the cast tried to make it better and they did, Craig in particular.

Moore was even more of a nice guy than Brosnan. As much as I couldn't see Brosnan as gritty and violent, I could maybe picture him as a bit rough around the edges. Moore, definitely not. Connery was often too much of an asshole, agreed. Maybe because Fleming consulted the first three (?) films Connery was pretty close to the books, though I'd say Craig's even closer.
I really liked Dalton, I wish he'd signed the contract earlier when he had an offer, I'd like to see more of him. (tbh I bought Scarlett mini series box set because he was in it)

"trying to be serious when they're real campy"--OMG, that perfectly summarizes the impression I got from Brosnan Bond movies.

I can't wait to see more Bond films so I can have an opinion on all these different Bonds, haha!
