Weekly Recs

It’s time again for you to give your weekly recs! This week we’re looking for your favourite fics/art you’ve seen over the past week and those fics/art that fit into the genre of the week!

This week the genre of fanwork recs we’re looking for is: Prompt fills! The 00Q tumblr community has many people who write short pieces for prompt fills, so this week we want your recs for those art and fic prompt fills that fill up the 00Q tag with lovely creativity.
When reccing fic/art, please can you make a separate comment with ‘Week Rec’ in the subject title. If you’re commenting anon, then just put your handle in brackets after the ‘Weekly Rec’ bit - eg Weekly Rec (cass). This just helps your friendly mod hunt down all your links and put them into the weekly rec post!

Note about tags for fic/art posts
Yay! We've seen some wonderful fic being posted to the comm! The tagging system is slowly being built, but if there is a tag you want to use for your post that doesn't yet exist (eg for a character/genre we haven't got) then just make a note in the header of the post that you would like a tag and your friendly mods shall give you one!)

Also, after you post first time we'll make you a special author/artist tag for you to use at your leisure :) Don't have to request it, we just see that you haven't got one so we add one for you!

1)      Whose your favourite – James or Q? Why is this?
2)      Q and James are going out on a date! How would they dress up and why? Would James have to persuade Q to loose the cardigan?

1. James, mostly because Q was an old guy for a real long time. Though, Q is growing on me. Q is finally like, younger or almost Bond's age and that's nice to see. I personally didn't think an "older Q" would have worked in "Skyfall" mainly because they wanted to show once again, the old MI6 [James] and the new MI6 [Q]. With that, they were to show that sometimes old habits die hard and sometimes the new ways aren't always the best.

2. If they're going to a fancy restaurant, James is all tux'd out. Q has like this one nice suit but it's not nice to James's fancy so James personally gets Q a nice tailored tux and it's reserved for anniversaries. When they just want to go to a pub with Alec and Eve, James wears v-neck t-shirts that show off his abs and these sinfully tight jeans that show off his booty. [and make q weak at the knees]. Q wears jeans a tad bigger than usual because he feels a bit [okay a LOT] inadequate to James and long sleeve shirts. He likes plaid, so he'll wear a lot of plaid. James doesn't care as long as Q is having a good time and AWAY FROM WORK, he couldn't care less what Q is wearing.

3. James: arrogant, asshole, courageous, helpful, and insightful. [because he's all of these things. and he won't let people forget it]
Q: resourceful, arrogant, timid, leader, and calm [he works well under pressure]

4. James: he likes history biographies, mysteries [Stephen King] and Cormac McCarthy. He likes reading Coleridge [Kubla Khan and Rime of the Ancient Mariner like speak to him. Q is his albatross]

Q: Likes to read entertainment biographies, some mysteries [like Denis Lehane] and poetry. He's a personal fan of the "beat generation" and Vonnegut.

1 - That's a really interesting idea - I've never thought that they could use Q as representing the new MI6 vs the old Mi6 in Bond (Although most meta things go over my head tbh, but still it's a really interesting point).

2 - Haha, I can totally picture James getting out the booty jeans for the sole purpose of making it difficult for Q to look anywhere else.

3 - You really sum up James and Q - why would you say that Q was both timid and a leader? Do you think he has to overcome his timidity to lead or does he just make his leadership style around the fact he's timid?

i say timid and leader because he's hesitant now after Silva. It's a surprise that Mallory even let him stay on as Quartermaster after that fuck up [also plot advancement]. So, in my mind after that major fuck up, i think he's hesitant to be bolder. He was arrogant. So arrogant that he thought it was all right to connect silva's laptop RIGHT INTO MI6'S MAINFRAME. So, yeah, I think he's timid and a leader because he might be holding back after what had happened. Who knows if he's on the chopping block because of that incident.

That's a really interesting idea about Q's reaction after his mistake! How do you think Q went about dealing with the aftermath of that decision in the wake of Skyfall? What did it take for himself and others to regain trust? (I suppose the new trailer tells us he wasn't axed! :P)

i feel like he was pissed off at himself. ROOKIE MISTAKE! he thinks bitterly. No one would have plugged in Silva's laptop to the bloody mainframe! So he beats himself over it. He thinks people won't listen to him. Just a kid, they'll think!

[however, when you look at Q-branch [most notably the gentleman that shows Q the fail safe code] they all look roughly around Q's age. [hence another Old vs. New MI6 going at it] So, they will still follow but Q doesn't think so]

Then James kinda gets him out of the rut. He says, Look, you brought Silva to me, and I killed him. Yeah, ya done goofed but you did your job. Instead of panicking you turned around and immediately helped me. And Q won James's respect for that.

And then there's Mallory. Mallory probably reprimanded him for being an idiot. The thing too is, did Mallory hire him or did Mansfield [Dench!M] ? So, there's that other factor. If Mansfield did, then I can see Mallory going: If she trusted you, I trust you. kind of thing. If Mallory hired him then he might be on a tighter leash but still have control of Q-branch to make sure he doesn't fuck up again.

Aww! I love the idea of Bond giving Q a kind of pep talk. <3 And I always think of M as the one who did his hiring, but you're right, it could have been Mallory doing some early interference...

Have you read winterhill's "A is for Arrogance"? She deals a bit with Q's reaction after the film.

Have you read winterhill's "A is for Arrogance"? She deals a bit with Q's reaction after the film.
